Dye Trying Video Zine Submissions

pasted and reposted from elsewhere.

on the video zine thing this is your first assignment. if you are reading this i mean you.

i am looking for a few possible bands to feature. good ones by my rules. unsigned is better but good is the main thing. so comment or mail me a link to further info and i will take a listen. if they actually seem to be trying then i will keep them on the list.

i am not looking for any particular style but there are certain things that will get a band off the list of possibles immediately. listing the greatful dead or phish as an influence. being signed to a top level major. a lack of passion in the music. too large a collection of covers in the collection. sucking. trying harder to be cool that to rock.

this doesnt mean plug your best friends band that deep down you know has no real potential. i want to get to the good stuff. i have passed up interviews before because i thought the band sucked and the current state of all things makes it even more feasible to do this.

so lets see what youve got.

----

ok so there are some questions on what i am looking for in relations to the video zine thing. so i will try to pin it down. put simply i want interesting. fun. odd.
pretty. cool. whatever. just remember this is not a family show and will obviously not be rated.

some examples are
emergency vehicles in action or transits
rants and tirades
things that are just plain weird/funny
shots in/out the window of plains and trains
stop motion animation
interesting stories stories
reviews of real items
band interviews
plastic bags
stuff blowing up
breaking news stories of fake events

things will get pulled from everywhere.

a couple of examples i will be doing are showing clips from some of my 8mm films refilmed with the camera. and a puppet show of sorts that may very well not get done. mike has been assigned the responsibility of joke telling and filtering. we are going to bring out the worst.

if you can get the same thing from multiple angles that is great. i can splice it together.

for band interviews the first question is what is the band who is in it what is the website and what have you got to say for yourself. any questions beyond that are up to you. the will be less editing if the is music to go after the interview bit (live shot or rule shot video (with a digital still camera or cameraphone or web cam).

still camera/cameraphone/web cam are the only real hard and fast rules. i could shoot with a nice camera and do the conversion but it would never get done and i want anyone to be able to submit to me. by setting this limit to everyone it puts everyone on the same playing field. but try to hold it steady if i get seasick watching it i might very well skip using it.

if you are submitting a video more for the audio that is one it let me know and and i will try to put it with something fitting.

on the reviews i say real items because i dont want reviews of websites, mp3s and such. it you want to do a review of an album it doesnt have to a new one but it does have to be by a band or artist that is still releasing new material. same goes for paper zines. really good format for stock soda and restaurant reviews.

i had said that it would be annual but i am changing that to bi-annual with july 31 and nov 30 as the target release dates. deadline submission will be one month prior to that. uploads will begin a month after release. i would like for the content to be exclusive until after release at the least but...

even though i am intending for this to be released real world only i will set up a youtube channel for the left overs and such. this will be used as a promotional tool and for showing bits that got cut. for instance if you send something that is 10 minutes long but i only use two i may upload it to there if it justifies it. cut scenes and gag reel type of thing.

i will not encourage law breaking to get or make videos. if i let something through that shows you breaking the law it was your idea and as such you and only you are responsible for the consequences.

when considering sending remember there will be two different aspects. there will be the feature segments and then the inbetweens. the inbetweens may very well end up feeling like blipverts by the time i get done so nothing is too short.

when filming keep speed in mind. somewhere between icarly and fred is what i am aiming for. if a uhhhhh bit uhhhhh drags on it may uhhhhhh get cut. practice runs and reshoots are completely acceptable. or i may just edit out all the dead space which will just look silly. but by that same token some points are suppose to drag out.

-----

Ultimately these need to be signed and kept on file by each person appearing but as production will happen in Oklahoma, and OK law accepts verbal contracts, these can be read aloud by identifiable people appearing in video. They must state legal name and date. So print it out and keep it with you. This will apply most specifically in interview situations. Those appearing must be over 18 or a printed copy signed by parent or guardian will mandatory. I really need to find a quick and dirty version that still covers all of the points.
------------------------------------------------

I, the undersigned, hereby give permission to KHG and/or Dye Trying to videotape my voice, name, physical likeness, and appearance in connection with a production entitled and described as Dye Trying.

I hereby assign and license to the KHG and/or Dye Trying any and all copyright or other literary rights that I may have in and to said production. I will receive no remuneration for my participation in this production.

I hereby agree that KHG and/or Dye Trying and its assigns, agents, employees, licensors, and successors may, by any media whatsoever, produce, distribute, exhibit, broadcast, and promote scenes of me in connection with said production, and may sell or license the same for distribution, exhibition, or broadcast to any other person or entity and that KHG and/or Dye Trying may make reference to and use my name, voice, and likeness.
ive made this joke around the house but i really do see it as a real concept. since survivor jumped the shark a long time ago why not make the show matter before it gets canceled. imagine if you will survivor nyc. the rules would have to be altered for the environment but in the end it would be a viable excuse to bring attention to the homeless situation. lets see how long some of them can stand living in an alley with the constant threat of attack and constant noise. or for that matter why not use real homeless people as the participants thus giving some of them a chance to get out of the hole they are in. doesnt have to be nyc. any major city will do and it will be a whole lot better then that stupid ass mtv show ever was.

in other new...i am dying at how stupid octamom and her lawyers are. she gonna get rich. shes going to get fame. shes going to get fined up the ass for breaking californias very strict child labor laws concerning filming. you think she might have considered that part ahead of time. how much padding can you put around 20 minutes of filming a day? like she hadnt already proved she was a complete psycho idiot already.

    <lj:music>Winamp *** 272. - - Ðàçâåäêà</lj:music>

reason #666 that itunes sux0rs:
first let me say that i dont use it that often so this was all new to me. i decided i would add my audio files to my library just for ease of use. i specifically did not choose to consolidate library. but it did any way. renaming files from folder\artist - album - track - title to folder\artist\album\track title. not even track - title. then i had some duplicated into special folders for special resons and it fucking moved those. to top it off almost every folder has a folder in it that is called unknown album. there are all kinds of problems with software doing this. and i wouldnt mind so much if it were not done to 22000 files. yes 22000. of those was a nice pretty stack of cds i had just encoded and i was all happy and shit because some of them got tags that i never even expected to. then crapple had to ruin my good mood. ok so it was nice enough to tell me it was going to convert wma files for me which i told to not do. you know how much work this is going to take to recover from even with the help of software?

fuckers.

and i just found out that i have to order a sound card because my onboard audio is not capable of certain simple and basic features that i need for assembling certian things. things that will become very important once i take that final step back into zineville. and it is coming now that i have figured out how its going to be done. i have to figure a few things out first and make sure it is all going to go together the way i want it. then i have to find people to help. but first i need my soundcard to get here. just dont think the whole zine thing is going to happen that soon or in a standard manner. and i have to come up with a name.

more than likely i will use the short form of dye trying (long form: die laughing or die trying...and believe me you are very trying). but that idea is years old and reserved for a special thing so it might only be used for a part within. then i can use some thing cool like kelvin helical genlock. ok maybe not that cool but lets pretend anyway. something stupid and goofy that pokes at the khg thing. then i become rich and famous and make a million pounds. pounds are worth more. never mind the fact that there is no money in zineville. i am thinking a summer release of the first issue. but it requires a whole lot happing first. like me getting off my ass. some of you people helping me. other people helping. getting the right tools and packaging and figuring out if its going to be annual or what. i am not going to let it ru(i)n my life again. can we do it? uh i think so.

SANTA INVITED TO EXPLORE NASA'S MOON AND MARS PROGRESS

Dec. 23, 2008

Allard Beutel
Kennedy Space Center, Fla.
321-867-2468
allard.beutel@nasa.gov

MEDIA ADVISORY: 32-08

SANTA INVITED TO EXPLORE NASA'S MOON AND MARS PROGRESS

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - When Santa Claus makes his routine pit stop at
NASA Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility on Christmas
Eve, he may do a bit more than chow down on milk and cookies. In the
next few decades, humans could be living, working and playing on the
moon, including millions of good little boys and girls counting on
Santa to put presents under their trees, no matter where those trees
are. So this year, Kennedy is inviting Santa to check out the
progress being made with the agency's Constellation Program.

After Santa and his reindeer-propelled sleigh glide to a stop on the
15,000-foot-long shuttle runway, he can head over to Launch Pad 39B
where modifications are being made for the Ares I-X rocket test
flight targeted to launch in July 2009. Workers are using the
Manitowoc 21000 model crane, which extends 640 feet off the ground,
to lift the lightning protection system's three 600-foot-tall steel
and fiberglass towers. Word has it Santa's elves began constructing a
similar launch pad and lightning protection system at the North Pole
last year in preparation for Santa's sojourns to the stars.

Santa also has the option to check out the new Ares I-X firing room,
which is fairly empty in comparison to space shuttle firing rooms. It
takes more than 200 controllers to launch a space shuttle, whereas
Ares calls for about 100. The firing room also has the capability to
go paperless. Shuttle controllers can have up to 6,000 procedure
documents at their consoles, but the new system will provide all
necessary documents online.

Next, Santa can swing by the Vehicle Assembly Building, or VAB, to
look at the first pieces of Ares I-X hardware. The test flight
rocket's upper-stage simulator, consisting of 11 cylinders that look
like enormous tuna cans, will help engineers prepare NASA's next
generation human spacecraft launch system for space travel. Rumor has
it elves are looking to have a similar system like the Ares I and
will call Santa's fleet, "Jingle Bell Rockets."

Santa's last stop would be Kennedy's Parachute Refurbishment Facility
where workers are manufacturing and packing Ares parachutes. The
drogue parachute that will gently slow the descent of the spent Ares
I-X first-stage motor has faired well during testing at the U.S.
Army's Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona.

Santa reportedly requested a mock-up moonsuit from NASA's Johnson
Space Center in Houston. The new red suit is expected to support a
week's worth of moonwalks. Santa may only need to wear it one night a
year, unless of course he relocates his workshop to the north pole of
the moon, Mars or beyond.

For more information about NASA's return to the moon, Mars and beyond,
visit:

http://www.nasa.gov/topics/moonmars

For more information on NASA's Constellation Program, visit:

http://www.nasa.gov/constellation

For more information on NASA's Kennedy Space Center, visit:

http://www.nasa.gov/kennedy

    <lj:music>waitresses - christmas wrapping</lj:music>

my mother and i tore apart my care and replaced the valve cover gasket. now my car doesnt go. its fixable but after sitting beside the highway in 20* weather i just really want to deal with it for a while. or anything else for that matter. it was bad enough that i had to order the gasket off ebay to get a descent price and get it in time. when i called around about it i was told 5-10 business days at $40-$60 plus freight. so i got one off ebay for $21. not the prefered method for getting car parts but apparently when you drive a daewoo (or have one parked in your driveway) you dont really have a whole lot of options. i still need to do the plugs and wires since when i pulled the wires (all of them. at. the. same. time. has to be done to do this job.) the boots on them were nice little depth guages for the oils pooled there. normally i would just go out and get them but lets just pretend for a minute that i can do that with any part for my car. @!@!@!@XXX###XXX!@!@!@!@. at least i got the vacuum leak on the pandys car fixed before doing this. and by leak i mean the hose was pretty much completely shot to shit. so now i have a paper weight of sorts. estimates on repair are $30 to $3000. a couple of oil changes might fix it. or it might mean a complete engine rebuild.

since i was already pissed off and frustrated to the nth degree i decided that to get my mind off of it i would work on cloning my primary hard drive. cloning a partitioned 200g hard drive to a 500g sata drive connected via usb cable. oh and lets not forget that that not all of the partitions are of the same file system. of course i was trying to do the impossible and do it while actually using the drive. just like taking a picture of a moving object. that didnt work. then i had to try several different pieces of software to find one that would do the job. hours and hours of entertainment. i also had a very real fear of running out of drive letters while doing this. and doing this took me all the way to v:. i still havent gotten the nerve to swap the drives out and do the full test. at which time i also have to put in my new burner. this whole project has been waiting for attention since june so i think it can wait a few days to be completed.

now would probably be a good time for breaking rocks for my rock garden. hella good stress reliever and layer one is pretty close to conpletion. if i can get this phase done before winter really sets it will be all nice and ready for the top pretty layer when spring rolls around. its actually looking like it will be a pretty nice thing. never mind the fact that i am doing my damnedest to not use cement or sandstone for any of it. there is sandstone there now but it will be removed when the real rocks get moved it. other than the birdbath the only cement should be the chunch from love canal. this is not a flowering rock garden. its just a bunch of rocks. with the centerpiece will be a meteorite...that i have yet to acquire.

remember this: winter solstice is the reason for the season. so while you are killing animals and family members in order practice these oddball holiday traditions keep in mind that no matter how bad it seems it really could be much worse. and it will be. merry god damned xmess. now lets go watch godzilla vs mithra. it will be fun

now i guess i will head off to the mall to start my holiday shopping. im crazy not stupid. i havent been to a mall since october or so. dont plan to adjust that now.

evergreens sparkling snow get this winter over with
